Biography:

Joe Grohe is a lifelong painter and retired educator whose artistic journey is defined by a deep-seated love for the creative process over professional accolades. His passion began with a first-place contest win at age thirteen and evolved through decades of dedicated study, including advanced certification with renowned artist Gary Jenkins and extensive graduate-level coursework. Throughout his life, Joe’s art has moved with him across the country, manifesting in large-scale murals in his homes in Wisconsin and highly successful exhibitions in Iowa and Washington. One notable weekend sale in Tacoma saw his work earn nearly $5,000, yet he eventually chose to step away from formal competitions to focus on the personal fulfillment art provides.

Since retiring from teaching at age 56, Joe has dedicated himself to using his talent for the benefit of others and his community. He has spent years donating original paintings to schools and youth programs, leading oil painting fundraisers for the Rotary Club, and offering free lessons from his garage. His commitment to teaching remains a core part of his legacy, as he continues to mentor his grandchildren in the craft both in person and through remote lessons across international borders. Now a member of the Bartlett Art Association, Joe continues to paint daily, valuing the shared experience and the quiet joy of the brushstroke above all else.
