Artist Statement:

My relationship with art has always been rooted in observation, patience, and joy rather than ambition. From an early age, drawing was simply how I paid attention to the world. I was interested in realism and in using images to communicate something clearly and honestly.
Although I pursued a career in education, art was never far from my life. Painting landscapes, creating murals for the homes I lived in, and teaching others to paint became natural extensions of who I was. I found deep satisfaction in working slowly, responding to light, form, and place, whether painting lakeside summers in Wisconsin, murals inspired by the plants in my yard, or landscapes in the Pacific Northwest.

Teaching has always influenced my art. I am less interested in recognition than in the experience of painting itself and the confidence it gives people. Later in life, studying and becoming certified in Gary Jenkins’ painting method allowed me to share that experience more intentionally, whether through formal lessons, community workshops, or teaching my own grandchildren across the globe.

I have never tried to be known in the art world. I paint because I love it, and I teach because I want others to experience the same satisfaction and sense of calm that painting has given me throughout my life.
